Career Profile
Under graduate from Utah State University with a Bachelors in Biological Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. During my tenure at Snap One, I swiftly progressed from Tier 1 to Tier 2 support, where I honed my troubleshooting skills to respond to system, database, and network issues within SLAs. Notably, I monitored Kubernetes and Linux system performance, utilizing Grafana and Prometheus for effective analysis. My contributions extended beyond support—implementing a Python script, I slashed workflow time from 30 minutes to just 15 seconds, equating to significant time savings globally. Furthermore, I played a key role in configuring and maintaining server auditing and network monitoring tools. Collaborating with the team, I developed new Standard Operating Procedures and optimized existing ones for enhanced efficiency. Transitioning to more strategic initiatives, I streamlined tool setup by leveraging Homebrew to package Python scripts, simplifying deployment and upgrades. Additionally, I showcased my versatility by creating a Swift app prototype to interface with an internal CLI-only API. In infrastructure management, I developed a Terraform configuration to generate multiple dashboards for different regions using a single template for New Relic, optimizing monitoring processes. Moreover, I actively contributed to cost-saving initiatives, aiding in reducing AWS utilization costs by approximately $250,000 per month through optimized instance and storage management. Notably, I provided training and support to onboard new engineers, ensuring seamless integration into our systems. In August 2024, I will embark on a new academic journey as a Masters of Engineering student in Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia, aiming to deepen my understanding of complex systems and further refine my skills in problem-solving and optimization. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities that lie ahead and eager to apply my learnings to real-world challenges in the field.
Experiences
Streamlined tool setup and complexity by leveraging Homebrew to package and bottle Python scripts, facilitating effortless deployment and upgrades. Created a Swift app prototype to interface with an internal CLI-only API. Developed a terraform config to create multiple dashboard for different regions from a single template for New Relic. Helped reduce cost of aws utilization with ec2 and rds by roughly $250,000 a month from reduction of instances and storage. All responsibilities listed below for level 1.
Monitored Kubernetes and Linux system, database, and network performance to detect problems early and respond within SLA. Reduced workflow time from 30 minutes to 15 seconds with a Python script, saving approximately 100 days globally each week. Configured and maintained server auditing and network monitoring tools with Grafana and Prometheus. Helped develop new Standard Operating Procedures and streamlined current procedures to be more efficient. Facilitated training and support for new engineers on our systems.
Handled 25+ escalations a week from Tier 1 techs for more in-depth troubleshooting. Provided key feedback to development team on features and bugs with Jira. Utilized advanced troubleshooting techniques such as commandline, wireshark packet captures, etc to solve issues. Acted as a subject expert for Tier 1 techs to solve common obscure issues faster to prevent more than 20% of calls going to Tier 2. Taught new techs in training when they had any technical questions about a product, networking protocol, or security best practices.
Troubleshooted network topologies on a TCP/IP model for small and large-scale deployments. Educated 100+ installers a week on best network, wireless, and security practices to minimize the need to return to the site. Authored technical documents for dealers and support to reference. Analyzed router, switch, and access point logs to determine security and network issues. Helped my team save dealers over $500,000 each month in troubleshooting time.
Provide outside additional teaching for students that did not quite understand the concepts in class. Helped and answered questions regarding homework, showing them the path to allow them to learn without someone showing what to do. Graded students homework and exams, and held mock exams to test the students.
Solved network and website issues while implementing good security practices. Started the work to streamline the ease of technology use for a solo entrepreneur. Enabled mobility to increase efficiency by 60% for travel to deliver classes and lecture for their business. Developed technology upgrade roadmaps to migrate from Windows to Apple and onsite/remote backup plans.
Inspect company IT systems and analyzed firewall logs for evidence of threats and produced summary reports describing all findings. Responded to all security incidents in the company from potential malware to spear phishing attempts. Increased security alerts 5% by implementing new IDS and email filters, increased employee security awareness by 30%. Participated in weekly meetings with team lead to discuss and learn about internal security procedures.
Maintain Infrastructure as Code in GitOps methodology workflow. Build machine images through Packer and Ansible for deployment in cloud environments with Terraform. Automatic alerting through Slack for services and server health. Maintain server patches and package updates for multiple Operating Systems with Ansible. Automating repetitive tasks with terraform template files and python/bash scripts. System Architecture for on-premise servers and networking.
